PAVING, PATHS & WALLS

Paving Paths & Walls

A well-paved patio is an essential element of any beautiful, functional garden and provides the perfect space for entertaining, al fresco dining and relaxing. Garden Design Cambridge’s in-house design team works closely with you to create the perfect paving solution for your specific requirements.

Every one of Garden Design Cambridge’s paved patios are built to an extremely high standard and are designed to last a lifetime.

As well as providing traditional concrete and tarmacking services, we provide a huge choice of ethically-sourced porous and non-porous paving materials, including flagstones, block paving and resin bound gravel. We offer a wide range of styles, paving slabs, bricks and other materials for patios and paths:

Natural Stone • Cornish Slate • Black Limestone • Imported Indian Stone • Quartzite • Granite Bluestone

Garden Design Cambridge can pave surfaces in any number of traditional or unique patterns:

90° Herringbone • 45° Herringbone • Stretcherbond • Basketweave • Chequerboard • Circular • Sweeps & Curves • Diamond • Random Placement

All our paving is laid on a layer of MOT Type 1 hardcore to create maximum stability, which is essential for patios and pathways. There are various advantages to all of these different styles and materials in every setting, which we are happy to discuss with you and advise on.

Drainage is also a huge issue to take into consideration when paving an area of a garden; luckily Garden Design Cambridge have years of construction experience and are experts at providing suitable drainage for all paving.

We also advise on the maintenance of your paving and can provide different sealants and cleaning methods – from chemicals to pressure washing – to deter weeds and mosses establishing themselves in the joints and to protect your paving from colour degradation – ensuring it stays looking as good as the day it’s laid.

Walls

A retaining wall can be both an attractive and functional feature of your garden; Garden Design Cambridge walls can expand your living and entertaining space, create intimate outdoor enclosures, make spectacular backdrops for water features or provide a beautiful space to exhibit your favourite plants. We can provide many types of retaining wall:

Gravity Wall • Sheet Piling Wall • Bored Piling Wall • Cantilever Wall • Anchored Wall

If you want your wall to have a vintage, weathered look, we can easily source reclaimed materials, or for a fresh, contemporary look we can use brand new materials. When it comes to building technology, materials and techniques, Garden Design Cambridge are constantly watching the industry for cutting-edge advances and train our designers and installation teams accordingly to give our clients the best possible results for each project.

Functionality

When choosing your walls, it is important to think of the functionality of your garden. For example, if children will be playing near the top of them, our garden designers would consider keeping the height of your retaining walls under two feet. Likewise, our Cambridge garden designers know that walls over four feet tall can tend to look unsightly and intimidating if placed too close to a building or patio, so we would discuss alternatives, such as terracing. If the wall requires steps or wheelchair access to ascend it, we can easily provide these options.

Garden Design Cambridge can build new walls from any type of material or are happy to simply re-point and reseal an existing wall.
